Instruction designed for you

Our classes and private instruction aim to nourish the bond between body and mind. In addition to the physicality of pilates, we're here to help you foster a sense of mindfulness and honor your individual capabilities while you practice!

Private & duet sessions

Our private and duet sessions are the most effective way to build strength, balance and flexibility while receiving one-on-one attention from our instructors. Our private studio has a full array of equipment and props in order to best serve every body.

Group classes

We keep our group classes small to provide individualized attention to all students participating. A small group class creates an energized environment that keeps you motivated and engaged while you practice!

Pilates session with Mari

A studio for every body

At The Balance Room, we firmly believe that somatic instruction – teaching practices that build awareness of internal sensation within your external environment – should focus on how you feel rather than how you look.

Our values are rooted in celebrating the rich diversity of our city. We strive to foster an inclusive environment and welcome all bodies, races, religions, gender identities and sexual orientations.

We aim to help our students find joy in the moment. Pilates encourages practitioners to connect mind and body through moving with intention, and by practicing at The Balance Room you will not only build strength and mobility, but you will also become a part of an intensely supportive community. Our goal is to help you live your most vibrant, authentic life!

What level of training and certifications do your instructors have?

The Balance Room’s founder, Mari, is certified in Mat I and II through Balanced Body. She retook her mat certification and a comprehensive 450-hour equipment training course at Drexel Pilates. Mari is a fully certified TRX trainer and a Level I Movement for Trauma facilitator. You can learn more about all of our instructors through our About Us page. What is the vibe of the studio?

We can’t necessarily dictate what makes a safe & welcoming space for everyone, but we like to think of our space as warm, inviting, and a bit quirky. We are truly a neighborhood studio; many of our students live within a 10-minute walk, which really creates a strong community vibe. Students and instructors all support and root for one another during their individual journeys, which makes The Balance Room such a special place to practice!

What are the different types of classes offered at your studio?

We offer small group mat, reformer, and TRX classes, with a number of specialty classes sprinkled throughout our schedule. We also offer private and duet instruction.

Do you offer classes specifically for beginners?

Yes! We offer a foundational reformer class on Tuesdays at 5:30 PM and Sundays at 11:00 AM. In addition, all of our mat classes are suitable for beginners and taught to an all-level audience.

Do you offer private instruction?

Yes, we offer private and duet sessions at our studio located at 811 S. 6th Street. When you come in for a private session, you will be working one-on-one with an instructor, and when you come in for a duet session, you and a friend/partner will be working with one instructor. Please reach out via the form on our Private Sessions page if you would like to schedule either a private or duet session.

How do I sign up for a class?

You can sign up for our group classes directly through our online booking platform, Mindbody, on the Group Classes page. Private and duet sessions must be booked by reaching out directly to us through the form on our Private Sessions page

Is there anything I should know before coming to class, or anything specific I should bring or wear?

Just come with an open mind and a willingness to learn! Wear clothes that you are comfortable exercising in, and bring a water bottle in case you get thirsty. We try to limit our use of single-use items in the studio, so we do not offer disposable bottles or cups but we do have a filtered water cooler. We’ll provide mats and workout equipment, so there’s no need to bring your own.
